About The Wellness Community-Silicon Valley

After my husband, Rusty Hammer, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia while living in Southern California, we both participated in The Wellness Community in Pasadena, where we found helpful resources and a nurturing community. When we moved back to San Jose we were frustrated by the lack of support programs or facilities like it. So we gathered several friends who wanted to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients, and started grassroots efforts to open a local affiliate of the international nonprofit organization, The Wellness Community.

Celebrating it’s 26 anniversary this year, The Wellness Community is headquartered in Washington D.C. and now has 25 Wellness Communities around the United States with 58 satellite centers, two abroad in Tel Aviv and Tokyo and online support.

With your support, we will make the vision a reality by opening TWCSV and providing free support to cancer patients, caregivers and loved ones. Through participation in professionally-led support groups, survivorship educational workshops, nutrition and exercise programs and mind/body workshops, people affected by cancer will learn vital skills that will enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of their disease.
